Yonsei Korean Language Institute

The Summer Afternoon Program (4 Weeks) is a short-term program designed for students who wish to intensively study Korean during the summer vacation while also experiencing various aspects of Korean culture in the afternoon.
This program is intended for beginner-level students and includes opportunities to participate in cultural activities and field trips.

• Program Duration: 4 weeks
• Class Hours: Total of 48 hours
• Class Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 PM–4:50 PM (※ 3 hours per day / 4 days per week)
• Available Level: Beginner Level 1 only (※ ONLY beginner-level students may apply)
  ※ Students are placed into upper/middle/lower beginner classes after a simple level test before the program begins

Cultural Activities

• Special activities such as Korean cooking classes (optional with separate registration)
• Field trip programs to cultural sites such as the DMZ and Daegwallyeong (optional with separate registration)

2026 Tuition & Fees

• Application Fee (Non-refundable): KRW 120,000
• Tuition Fee: KRW 904,000 (Includes KRW 864,000 tuition + KRW 40,000 insurance fee)
  ※ Insurance fee must be paid together with tuition and is non-refundable
  ※ Registration is not completed without payment

• All schedules and deadlines are based on Korea Standard Time (KST, UTC+9).
• Applicants residing overseas must check the time difference carefully and complete all procedures before the deadline.
• ※ The system will automatically close after the deadline, and late registration or payment will not be accepted.
• ※ Dormitory application is NOT available for this program.

• Eligibility and Required Documents
  • • Eligibility: 
      
      1. Applicants who have graduated from high school or are expected to graduate by June 2026
      2. Beginner-level Korean learners (Those who are new to Hangul or have basic knowledge of Hangul / Only Level 1 (beginner) is offered)

      1. A copy of your passport.
      2. A copy of final degree certificate (only in English or Korean; translations must be notarized if in another language).
         • For high school seniors graduating in June 2026: Official transcript with the expected graduation date.
         • If the transcript does not indicate the graduation date, you must submit a document issued by the school administration certifying that the student is expected to graduate before June 2026. The document should include the school name, expected graduation date, student’s name, and the name and contact information of the responsible officer.

• Visa Information
  • • The Summer Afternoon Program(4weeks) doesn’t meet the student visa(D-4) requirement.
    • The 4-week summer period can be covered by the K-ETA. Visa support for all type of visa is not available.
• Application Fee & Tuition Payment Guide
  • • 2026 Application Fee (Non-refundable): KRW 120,000
    • 2026 Tuition (Including Insurance KRW 40,000 / Non-refundable): KRW 904,000
      - All bank transfer fees must be borne by the applicant. Any shortage due to exchange rate differences must be additionally paid.
      - When transferring via bank, the received amount may be less than the sent amount due to transfer fees. Please ensure the full amount is received.
    • Payment Method
      - Domestic payment (Korea): KRW payment via INICIS virtual account
      - Overseas payment: Foreign currency payment via Flywire
    • Refund Policy
      - Refunds are processed based on the date of submission of the refund request form.
      - For overseas refunds, bank transfer fees will be deducted from the refunded amount.

• Academic Regulations
  • • Students will be placed into appropriate classes (upper, intermediate, or lower within Level 1) based on the placement test.
    • The program may be canceled if the number of registered students is fewer than 5.
    • Students must attend at least 80% (38 hours) of the total class hours to complete the course.
    • Grades are determined based on attendance, examinations, and other assessments. However, only Korean language class hours are counted toward the required attendance for course completion.
    • A Certificate of Enrollment, Transcript, and Certificate of Completion (upon completion) can be issued.
• Learning content and Textbooks
  • • Textbook: Yonsei Korean 1 (3-Week Intensive)
    • Course Content
      • Develop accurate pronunciation of vowels and consonants and improve reading fluency.
      • Learn to use particles and verb endings, and understand basic Korean sentence structures.
      • Use basic sentence endings based on honorific expressions.
      • Be able to use everyday expressions such as greetings, self-introduction, and shopping.
• Cultural Activities
  • • Yonsei Korean Language Institute offers afternoon cultural activities for students participating in the Summer Afternoon Program(4 weeks), providing opportunities to experience Korean culture. The Korean cooking practice classes will be held 3 times over the course of 3 weeks(July 7th ~ July 221st).
    • The specific details and schedule will be provided during the orientation before the class starts.
    • The afternoon cultural activities are available on an optional basis for those who have registered in advance and does not count toward the attendance hours required for course completion.
    •  The content of cultural activities may be subject to change based on the KLI or instructor circumstances.

    1. Korean Cooking Class

    Students will learn about the background and characteristics of Korean cuisine, enhancing their understanding of Korean food culture. Through team-based practical activities, they will foster closer relationships with friends and be introduced to Korean food for the first time. The cooking practice will provide a lively and energetic afternoon, and they will be able to reminisce about the Korean dishes they have made when they return to their home country.

     

    ※ A total of 3 cooking classes are registered together.

    Class schedule: July 7, July 14, and July 21, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

    *Kimchi and rice will be provided, and if there is any meat that cannot be consumed, it will be replaced with mushrooms and seafood.

• Field Trip

  • Yonsei Korean Language Institute organizes a cultural exploration field trip for students in the Summer Afternoon Program(4weeks) to experience Korean culture and history. The field trip takes place on a weekend day during the semester, departing at 8 a.m. and returning to the school around 6~7 p.m. The field trip is available only to those who register in advance and is not mandatory.

     Application Period: 2026. 5. 7 ~ 2026. 6. 3

     

    [Cost]: 160,000 KRW per session.

     ※ If the minimum number of participants is not met, the field trip will be canceled.

     ※ Refunds are not possible for personal reasons, except in the case of insufficient participants.
