Yonsei University's Korean Language Institute is a leading institution in Korean language education globally, embodying Yonsei's educational philosophy of fostering innovative leaders with a sense of community through truth and freedom.
Established in April 1959, the Korean Language Institute has played a pivotal role as a center for Korean language education worldwide. Through language and cultural exchange, it strives to cultivate talent capable of contributing to the development of international society and human prosperity in line with Yonsei's educational philosophy.
Since its inception with 24 students, the Korean Language Institute has grown to accommodate over 160,000 students from more than 151 countries, with over 8,000 graduates from its regular program. With the increasing global recognition of South Korea and the growing interest in K-Culture, the demand for learning Korean is expected to continue rising.
To meet the surging demand for Korean language education, the Korean Language Institute at Yonsei University is committed to pioneering efforts to enhance the quality of education. It aims to create an educational environment that aligns with the Fourth Industrial Revolution through various educational programs, textbook development, publication of Korean language academic journals, and the expansion of digital education facilities.
Based on the 'language-based platform learning model,' the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute will continuously strive to achieve the following goals:
Continuously diversify and specialize Korean language education to meet the needs of learners. Efforts will be made to develop textbooks and programs to make Korean language learning more accessible, along with strengthening digital platform education that transcends time and space limitations.
Continuously enhance customized teacher training capabilities. Efforts will be made to enhance the capabilities of the Institute's over 160 highly qualified teachers, developing and disseminating teacher training programs to further develop and maximize their professional skills.
Activate cultural communication and exchange. The Korean Language Institute will continue to expand cultural experience and cultural interaction programs alongside Korean language education. Through these efforts, the experience at the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute will lay the foundation for spreading Korean language and culture.
